Grant Featherston is noly know for a few mid century furniture designs, but the ones he certainly had an impact. Grant Featherston was born in Geelong Victoria in 1922. While he did not receive a formal design education, and was self-taught, he created some truly beautiful mid century designs that have remained in demand for over half a century. Mr. Featherston started his career making lighting and glass panels before he served in the army from 1940-1944. After which he returned to Melbourne and produced the first of his famous Contour chairs in 1951. Shortly after, he established the Featherston Contract Interiors showroom in 1956, and in 1957 he became a consultant to Aristoc Industries for 13 years. Grant was rewarded by his inclusion as a foundation member of the Society of Designers for Industry, which was the forerunner to the Design Institute of Australia. He received numerous Good Design Awards, and his designs are well represented in the National and State galleries and museums.
