Ivory Sofas: Compare Fabrics, Frames & Room Fit

Oct 5, 2026

Stand at the doorway of a room with a pale sofa in it and your eye does one of two things. It slides across the cushions and out to the window, or it stops where the upholstery meets something darker: a wooden leg, the edge of a frame, the line of a base. Almost every ivory sofa that reads as deliberate rather than unfinished has one of those stops built into it.

The Annora Sofa - Kerbey Ivory is built around one. Four Hands calls it a fresh, elongated take on the traditional tub chair, with exaggerated depth and solid parawood legs that intersect the ivory upholstery for a contrast of color and scale. At 86.5 inches wide, 34.5 inches deep and 28 inches high, it is a long, low barrel with a wooden vertical rising at each end, which is enough contrast for the pale to have somewhere to end.

That is the useful way to shop for one. Ivory describes a family of very pale fabrics, and the fabric is not the whole point of the sofa; the point is what the pale is made of and what it is seen against. Get those two right and the sofa stands as a shape in the room rather than as a blank.

Ivory in the Name, Something Else on the Label

Ivory on a sofa page can mean the upholstery, the colorway, or only the mood of whoever wrote the product name. The Harper Ivory Sofa - Beige, Brown is the clearest case: ivory is in the title, while the listed color is Beige and the finish is Mink. What the listing describes instead is what you would actually live with: square tapered wood legs, an exposed wood frame, curved arms and a reverse half-moon cut out of the back, with down-blend cushions on the seat and two pairs of down-blend throw pillows.

The Lisette Sofa Textured Ivory Dark Walnut - Brown works the same trick through its finish rather than its color. The name gives you the pairing in two words, textured ivory and dark walnut, while the color line reads Brown, White. Both facts describe one piece: pale upholstery over a dark edge, 80.5 inches wide, 34 inches deep and 30 inches high.

Then there is the sofa whose label is the real story. The Margot Sofa - 95" - Harrow Ivory looks like a linen sofa in a photograph, and the composition line explains why without overselling it: 47 percent polyester, 18 percent viscose, 30 percent acrylic and 5 percent linen, over a solid parawood frame, with the fabric brushed and pulled for a vintage texture and the legs finished in almond. Five percent linen is enough to change how a weave reads. It is not a promise that the sofa will behave like pure linen, and it should not be read as one.

On a pale sofa the color line, the finish line and the composition line tell you more than the title does. Two of the three cost nothing to read, and they are the difference between ordering a texture and ordering a word.

The Surface the Light Catches

A sofa is the largest quiet plane in most living rooms, and on a pale one the surface does the work that pattern would do elsewhere. A looped weave breaks the light up across the whole face of the piece. Velvet gathers it into a low sheen. A flat performance tweed holds it still and lets the silhouette carry the room.

The Charlotte Curved Sofa 71" - Ivory Boucle is the compact version of that idea. It is 71 inches wide but 43 inches deep, with 47 inches of seat width inside the curve and a seat 18 inches off the floor, and its ivory bouclé is listed as 95 percent polyester and 5 percent acrylic over a solid hardwood frame and legs. If a room cannot spare eight feet of wall but can spare real depth, this is the shape to measure. The same curve is also offered as a loveseat and an oversized lounge chair, which is useful when a chair and a sofa have to agree.

Sofa Blaine bouclé ivory pushes the geometry lower still: 27.56 inches tall overall, a seat 15.75 inches from the floor, a seat depth of 26.38 inches, and black feet under the ivory so the contrast shows at the very base of the piece. A seat that low is a decision about who sits on it. It is a lounge rather than a perch, and worth testing against the tallest person in the house before the order is placed.

Sofa Brice takes a third route, and it is the one to look at when the answer is metal rather than wood. The Eichholtz piece is 82.68 inches wide and 28.35 inches high, with a 25.59-inch seat depth and a low 16.54-inch seat height. It is offered in either a Bouclé Cream or a Mademoiselle Beige colorway, the beige listed over a brushed brass finish base. The pale stays pale; the edge comes from below.

Velvet is the outlier in the group. The Mystique Sofa - Ivory is upholstered in velvet, with a loose bench seat over a tight back, a spring-down cushion, blend-down bolsters and 8-way hand-tied seating, and the frame is finished in a soft silver paint. At 76 inches wide, it is one of the pieces in this group meant to stand away from the wall rather than be pushed against it.

What the Sofa Has to Do After the Photograph

In a house with children, a dog, or a door to the garden, a pale surface stops being a color question and becomes a cleaning one. The Kira Sofa - Heather Ivory Tweed is 96 inches of heather tweed listed as a performance fabric that is moisture repellent, durable and easy to clean, built on soft geometric lines with fixed thick arms, 37.5 inches deep and 187 pounds. It is one to consider when the ivory has to hold up rather than be admired.

The Max Sofa - Bonnell Ivory approaches the same problem from the other end. The upholstery is performance-grade, the arms are clean tracks and the cushioning is loose feather-blend, at 87 inches wide and 39.5 inches deep. One line on the listing matters more than the rest: the cushions are not reversible. That is not a flaw, but it is information. On a pale sofa you will want to turn cushions for even wear, and this piece tells you up front that you cannot.

If the sofa has to sleep a guest, the Becchi Sofa Bed is the rare ivory piece that changes shape. It is 97 inches wide and 41.75 inches deep closed, opening to 97 by 84, with a 17.3-inch seat height, 76.8 inches of seat width and a back just 11.4 inches high, upholstered in off-white bouclé with leather straps. The trade for the fold is the low back. You are buying a sofa for the way a room is used twice a month rather than for long evenings of upright reading.

And when nothing in the pale palette is quite right, Selene Sofa - Custom exists for that outcome: a 96-inch sofa, 45 inches deep and 39 inches high, made to order in the USA with an 8-way hand-tied seat, where you supply your own fabric. Forty-five inches of depth is a serious footprint, and that is the real cost of the option. In exchange, the fabric decision goes back into your hands instead of a colorway list.

Ivory That Stays Outside

The same pale appears on terraces, and outdoors the word ivory stops being only a color. The Thelma Outdoor Sofa - Venao Ivory is 63 inches wide, 28 deep and 28 high, with woven all-weather wicker forming a light, hyacinth-like frame around a durable seat cushion, and it weighs 36.38 pounds. The Dakota Outdoor Sofa-86" goes the other way: 86 inches wide, built on solid FSC reclaimed teak with cushions in 100 percent olefin, and the reclaimed wood is expected to carry knots, cracks, holes and patches, so no two pieces are alike.

Both carry the same instruction, and it belongs in the buying decision rather than in a footnote: cover or store indoors during inclement weather and when not in use. An ivory outdoor sofa is a beautiful object with a chore attached to it. If the terrace is where things get left out, that is worth knowing before the cushions arrive.

When the Pale Is Right

The pale you choose should follow the room rather than the other way around. In a space that is already light, with a pale wall, pale floor and pale rug, take the ivory with the strongest surface and the most visible edge: the bouclé curve of the Charlotte, the dark walnut under the Lisette, the wooden verticals of the Annora. In a room with dark floors and heavy wood, a low ivory shape does the opposite work. The Annora, the Blaine and the Margot all stand at about 28 inches or lower, so they read as long horizontal lines above the floor rather than as tall bright objects.

If the sofa has to survive the way your house actually works, the performance route is narrower than it looks. Kira's stated moisture-repellent, durable, easy-clean tweed and Max's non-reversible cushions are the two ends of it: one is about spills, the other about how the piece wears over years. If guests sleep over, the Becchi converts. If the right pale is not in anyone's catalog, the Selene lets you bring your own.

One test settles more of this than any swatch. Stand where you will actually walk in, look at the bottom six inches of the sofa, and ask what stops your eye there. Wood, brass, woven rattan, a black foot, a shadowed plinth: something has to. An ivory sofa without it is not a bad sofa. It is simply one the room will never quite see.
